The Rapture - Axis (Boston) permalink

Official rating: 89 + 5 first timer points = 94

I had been waiting for at least three years to finally see The Rapture live. When I finally did, it was in a club I had (strangely) never been to before, so it was all kinds of new for me. Anyway, the openers were Locksley (missed ‘em) and The Presets (right, click pic), a techno duo from Sydney, who were actually pretty good. They had some DFA-esque thrustdance thing going on and I’m gonna check ‘em out further.

So The Rapture came out and started up “Heaven”, which was pretty appropriate for me. The crowd was immediately into it, and I’ve gotta give the band props for throwing out a set that never really lagged. The next track was “Get Myself Into It”, and after yelling the lyrics to both songs as loud as possible, I got the tall jackass who stood right in front of me to move. Druzzi’s sax was just plain awesome to see and hear. “Sister Savior” was next, and I have to say, their live sound might even be better than the studio pimpedness. Luke gave a shoutout to Rocco, but that was the only time he introduced anyone.

I could go into a billion more details, but funk that. The rest was just as tight - they played a ton of old stuff, the best of the new, and ended on a ridiculous version of “Olio”. I left as sweaty as a Texas sheep, and completely fulfilled. If you have the opportunity to see them live and don’t, you’re a bad, bad person. Just sayin’.

My slightly-redundant review for QRO
