Phoenix - TT the Bear’s (Cambridge, MA)

Official rating: 84 - 5 global warming points = 79

Phoenix the band. Not the city.Phoenix are French but similar to Air in that they have compelling beat-laced, English-sung, slick pop, but they’re bouncier, less synthetic, and more rabid. Needless to say, this made for a great show at ol’ cramped, sweaty TT’s. Jiving mostly with new material off their forthcomer, It’s Never Been Like That, they captivated the crowded almost immediately, and juiced it up as they went along. It was nearly impossible not to dance, dip, or stomp to this stuff.

There were little to no weak moments, a thoroughly impressive show, even gratefulness expressed for Boston’s support. The first song in the encore was an acoustic ditty, “Playground Love”, co-written with Air, apparently, which was just icing. I hope they come back again this year.

Yeah, I had to readjust because I remembered how retardedly hot it was in there. I couldn’t groove to my fullest abilities
