Yasu (Korean BBQ) - Brookline, MA permalink

Official rating: 87 - 6 confusion points = 81

not YasuWe walked in and had to wait a while for the host to show up. Once he did, we told him we wanted a barbeque table, which prompted him to walk us around just about every section of tables, as if we were supposed to choose one, based on our complete lack of knowledge. Somehow, we managed to talk our way to a barbeque table, despite a ridiculous language barrier & the host’s lack of attention.

We decided to rock the #1 barbeque for two and some massive beers, and after some serious explanation, our waitress got the message. Once we got the grub, including tons of ban chan, our waitress dumped our food into the grill and bolted. Pretty sure we didn’t see her for at least another 20 minutes, by which point I had run out of beer. Trying to calm my rage, I summoned the gent who sat us and scored a brewski by the skin of my teeth. Eventually, after we were pretty much done with the meal, our slacker waitress showed up and proudly put some of the last of the food on the grill, as if she hadn’t left us to fend for and do it ourselves for the last half hour.

The service sucked, the prison-style bench I had to sit on sucked, but other than that, it was pretty solid. I’m glad I’ve been, but I’m not sure it’s worth a return visit.
