Note: Yeah, I know the pictures suck. Better than nothing.
This was the first show of The Walkmen’s January Northeast mini-tour with Mazarin. The gigs are to show off their new songs, which will be on their new album, which comes out in April. According to Hamiltonious, the new album and its title track will be called “All Hands On [Deck?] [Us?] [Me?]”. It was hard to understand.
They ripped through a bunch of new songs, all of which were fiery and more serrated. He didn’t mention hardly any names, except for “Louisiana”. They played “The Rat” third, snuck in “Little House of Savages”, and “Wake Up” and “We’ve Been Had” in the encore. All in all, a solid job of debuting the new material. They also had some technical problem with the keyboard, which the entire band and I laughed at.
Looking forward to when they come back around again in support of the album.
As for Mazarin, they did an admirable job opening, and their style fit like a mitten.
They jammed dutifully through their album, and made a few people take notice. The last time I was supposed to see them was with Rogue Wave, but they pulled out at the last minute, so there was just that much more anticipation for this show, and I was wholly impressed. A solid start to my ‘06 concert season.
