when it comes to redneck humor, you would typically look no further than the almost-too-classic Beverly Hillbillies. but back in 1983, magic happened when the cast and crew of “Last Night at the Alamo” gathered in the gutter of hollywood to bring deep texas alive.
the setting is 1980’s houston, in a run-down outskirts bar and a cast of colorful locals that fill it.

the most important feature of the entire film has to be the hilarious doom that surrounds the scene from the beginning. the lonely music and the black & white film prepare the satire. you know full well that the characters are all born losers, and it’s a blessing that it’s the last night at this bar.
the relentlessly realistic cursing, the comfortability between barflys: both brilliant devices to make the movie feel clearer than most.
ignore this:“I sit here contending with this cheese on toast”
this movie includes: Cowboy, Lionel, Claude, Ichabod, Steve, Hector - 6 of the finest, freshest characters in Texas history.
seriously, when can you think of another Texas movie? these guys win by default.
so yeah, if you’ve never heard of this movie before, you’re a lucky chump, cause you have now. So go buy it or rent it or download it (er, assuming you just bought it).
DID YOU KNOW?
Last Night at the Alamo (1983) was the most popular independent film in Texas during the 1980s and is credited by many critics with sparking the independent film-making movement of the 1980s and 1990s across America.

How ya doin’ Sweetums? is a phrase I will never forget. This was truly a cult movie. I and my friends watched this movie at least a dozen times.
