Air - Avalon (Boston) permalink

Official rating: 87

ever wonder what makes monday nights so great? me either. nothing does. except when you get to see Air with a ticket you paid for well in advance.

i hadn’t indulged in any post-synth spacepop in a while, so i’m glad i had the opportunity to see someone do it well.

Air’s stage show is pretty much as you’d expect it, a band pretending they live in 2030. they reminded me an awful lot of the band in Daft Punk’s “One More Time” video.

Air was chock full of flashy discofunk, girly space trances, and recycled 80’s glamwave. thankfully the people behind Air are talented enough and just smart enough to be able to make you believe that they’re the real deal, that music is actually evolving into this, not regressing.

there’s a snooty but not arrogant strength in every notebeat that makes the echo last just a little longer, the few seconds in which their true power lies. because you know you’ll need as much time as possible to adjust to every thick second of the show, unless you’re completely ADD.

Air is a great active example of a group able to control their entire musical spectrum; when to blow you away, when to soothe you. the sound of Air is meant to be just that; all-encompassing but not overwhelming.

plus, they seem nice. which is scary.

anyone else want to go watch Bladerunner now?

FBI, Justice Dept. to Face 9/11 Panel

checks and balances are all good and well, but sometimes i wonder how much people are really willing to take blame for anything. this whole commission nonsense plays right into the thirsty public’s hands.

with the republicans in power, i’d be willing to bet that this commission’s true purpose is to raise all of the 9/11 questions now and early (relative to the election), have all of the top people, e.g. Condie Rice, answer the commission’s questions well, and look like they did the absolute best job possible during the events of 9/11.

if the commission asks all of its questions, and everyone in charge at the time answers them satisfactorily, then the entire regime, save any sacrificial lamb, come out looking like silky butter, and coast into the election.

even if the facts are indeed that the people involved did the best of their abilities, several powerful people should already know that, so the fact that this commission exists is not accidental, nor is it truly investigative. it sounds like a dummy commission set up to impress the masses with its barbara walters-esque, hard-nosed reporting that will cheaply boost the trust in the current administration. slam dunk.

Britney Getting Real for TV Series

aw cheah….set your minds to “numb” as britnizzle slaps you with another show of public affection; her fine new reality series soon to be on MTV, OnTourage.
brit
apparently it revolves around her latest tour, so look forward to many hurried costume changes, wacky tourbus antics, and insight into the 3-hour makeup process it takes to cover britney’s fleshy scales.

can you feel the robot-claw of pop culture squeezing your neck? has anyone stopped to ask themselves why they watch?

our current society ranks 3rd in the all-time “Most Embrarassing Periods in America” right behind:
1. 1921-1926 (Charleston, any other dance)
2. 1815-1821 (Lobster Affair, Indiana statehood)
3. 1973-1976 (Solo Beatles, earth tones, cults)
